Someone upstairs is baking a hummingbird cake
Aug 24th, 2009 | By Stephanie Campisi | Category: JournalI’ve just about finished off my WQ article, and then it’s on to some fiction (okay, so I’ve already done a fair chunk of work on a short story today).
It looks as though Stephen Amsterdam (the author whose talk Jono happily programmed through, to the polite chagrin of the Sleepers crew), has won the Age Book of the Year award for his novel Things We Didn’t See Coming.
Hmm, I wonder if he saw it coming?
Also, that book cover reminds me (happily) of If On a Winter’s Night a Traveller:

The Sleepers crew must have looky-likies because neither Zoe nor myself - and together we constitute the Sleepers crew - were chagrined or even aware that anything was going on with you and Jono, whoever he is. In fact, I wasn’t even there. We are so rarely chagrined, and I think it would take quite a bit to chagrin us. I shall watch out for these looky-likies and see to it that they stop being so chagrined-appearing!
Hmm, I’ll blame the chap sitting near me who said “psst, those are the publishers!”. It was very politely curious chagrinning, though, I must say–more polite than the swift kicks I was giving the boy to make him pay attention (he was on deadline).
